THE SEASON RUNWAY

Development over pressure.

A young athlete does not need the hardest possible preseason. The goal is to create a bigger foundation, better habits and fewer surprises when practices, tryouts, school demands and competition begin to stack up.

The guide explains the sports-science and decision-making behind the system. The companion tracker turns that thinking into a repeatable weekly rhythm with strength, aerobic development, readiness and reflection in one place.

THE SIMPLE SYSTEM

Five actions. One clear rhythm.

The plan uses enough work to create progress, enough recovery to adapt and enough flexibility to fit a real basketball schedule.

01Warm up + readiness

Prepare

Check how the athlete feels, raise body temperature and rehearse the positions the session will demand.

02Two strength days

Train

Build full-body strength, trunk control and movement quality with clean reps and age-appropriate challenge.

03Two aerobic days

Condition

Develop the base that supports longer practices and recovery between basketball actions without punishment conditioning.

04Adjust the day

Recover

Use Green, Yellow and Red readiness to follow, modify or pause the plan when sleep, soreness, pain or schedule stress changes.

05Track + communicate

Reflect

Record completion, effort, soreness and one useful note so athletes, parents and coaches can see patterns early.

SIX-WEEK APPLICATION

Build capacity without chasing fatigue.

Work capacity is the athlete's practice battery: the ability to handle quality work, recover from it and repeat it. Progress should show up as better consistency, cleaner movement and improved recovery—not exhaustion for its own sake.

01

Weeks 1-2: establish rhythm

Learn the tracker, keep sessions controlled and build confidence with repeatable habits.

02

Weeks 3-4: build consistency

Make small progressions only when movement quality, readiness and recovery remain steady.

03

Weeks 5-6: finish ready

Maintain strength and aerobic work while making room for more basketball-specific demand.

04

Green, Yellow or Red

Use the readiness check to train as planned, shorten or simplify the day, or pause and communicate.
